WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An Indianapolis winery wins the top prize at last week's international wine contest.
Easley Winery, in Indianapolis, won Wine of the Year in this year's INDY International Wine Competition held at Purdue University July 29-31. The winery's 2014 Traminette took the award, beating nearly 2,100 other wines.
For the event, wines from 40 states and 12 countries were judged on appearance, aroma, taste and aftertaste.
Indiana wineries won 316 medals - 31 double gold, 45 gold, 158 silver and 82 bronze.
Winemaker of the Year honors also went to an Indiana resident - Ted Huber of Huber's Orchard, Winery & Vineyards, from Borden, Indiana. Officials said this award goes to the vintner who wins the most gold medals by brand at the competition.
Huber's winery also picked up the Winery of the Year award, which is for the "winningest winery," and his Catawba Rose won Indiana Wine of the Year.
Other state winners include Country Heritage Winery, of LaOtto, which won Indiana's Farm Winery of the Year; and French Lick Winery, of French Lick, won Indiana Traminette of the Year.
